LEGO The Ninjago Movie Ice Tank 30427 Set Review for MF0

The Bag
Found this at my local Target hanging out with the Registers.  I know there has been talk about frames with treads or just having tanks in the game in the past; with a set like this I think it serve as a great resource for such things. Let's see what is inside.

The Frame
Can you build some sort of creation right away?

Yes, I stole the set's tread build and tried to get a frame on top. Over all I think it worked out. Learning from some past sets there also might be a Frigate/Spaceship in this set waiting to be built. +5 points

Parts 1
Is it below, at, or above the golden ratio? The Golden Ratio is $0.10 per part.

$3.49 / 71 = $0.05 per part! Under ratio though I feel there might be some concerns about that given the treat pieces but will address that in one of the next questions. +5 points.

Parts 2
If you can't build a creation right away, or choose not to, does it have parts you should be able to put into use right away?

Hard to say no when a set has taps but not the only useful parts here. +5 points.

Parts 3
Does it have more than a handful of immediately useful parts?

Yes, +5 points. Now the tread pieces are a very focused piece and the set has a total of 31 and if you take that from the part count (71) you are still left with 40 pieces which if only used that count for the Golden Ratio than we still be under.

The Set
Total: Another A+ Set and if you are a tank fan could probably just field the set as is!

Double LEGO Review for MF0: Ninjago The Cowler Dragon and Friends Pop Star Red Carpet

Double Review
So I picked these two polybags, Ninjago The Cowler Dragon and Friends Pop Star Red Carpet, from Target in there Holiday section in the what I call "Stocking Stuffers" wall. Though the Friends Pop Star Red Carpet first appeared on LEGO Online Store as one of those buy X rewards. Let's get started with the The Cowler Dragon.

The Bag
Can you build some sort of creation right away?

I couldn't figure out a frame, a ship or anything else from this set but I think it only needs a few more pieces to get something out of it or it might be a good base for a I'jad ship perhaps? -5 points

Parts 1
Is it below, at, or above the golden ratio? The Golden Ratio is $0.10 per part.

$3.99 / 45 pieces = $0.09 puts us just below for +5 points.

Parts 2
If you can't build a frame right away, or choose not to, does it have parts you should be able to put into use right away?

So we have parts, good parts and weapons with some interesting colors but not enough or the right ones to bring this together into something that can be built. +5 points. FYI No Glow in the Dark Here.

The Set 1
Does it have more than a handful of immediately useful parts?

Despite not getting a frame I am going to say Yes for +5 points.

The Set 2
Total: A- set which feels right. If you like a weapon pack or some of the unique colors then I would snag this set up.

Alright, let's move on to Friends Pop Star Red Carpet

The Set
Can you build some sort of creation right away?

This was another build fail. -5 points.

Parts 1
Is it below, at, or above the golden ratio? The Golden Ratio is $0.10 per part.

$4.99 / 33 = $0.15 per part, very above the ratio for -10 points. (I don't remember what I paid and going by RRP I can find on the web but...this doesn't feel right. Might have to go double check.)

Parts 2 - Minifigure with Microphones.
If you can't build a frame right away, or choose not to, does it have parts you should be able to put into use right away?

Yes, there are some. The microphones could be used as interesting scopes or senor packages. The mic stand pieces I am sure could be useful then there is the 'camera' that can be a weapon certainly. I like the two starts, could be an interesting accent piece or such. +5 points.

The Set
Does it have more than a handful of immediately useful parts?

Even though we have some fun and interesting parts; just not enough. -5 points

Total: Unlike our previous score this one is pretty harsh; C. Even if I am wrong on the price it still going to be hard to get below the Golden Ratio. There some interesting pieces here but not sure if they are worth the price. Buyer's choice.

LEGO Ninjago Kai's Fire Mech Review for MF0

The Box
So I picked this up at Toys R Us but seems to come and go out of the stores so I am not sure if this is a discontinued yet or not.
Stickers
Can you build some sort of creation right away?

I build an interesting quad frame. +5 points

The Frame
Is it below, at, or above the golden ratio? (10 pence none the richer, no wait. 10 cents per part!)

$9.99/102 = $0.10 per part due to rounding giving us zero points.

Parts 1 - I need swords, lots of swords...
If you can't build something right away, or choose not to, does it have parts you should be able to put into use right away?

Yes indeed, +5 points.

Parts 2
Does it have more than a handful of immediately useful parts?

I would say most certainly. +5
Parts 3
Total: 15 points for an A set, not bad but there are some other options I like to talk about below.

Parts Focus
So recently I started talking about taking MF0:RA to another scale, that scale being minifigure scale. For that scale, this is a slam dunk frame in a box BUT is sort of short. We are speaking in scale. Looking at the adjustments a Chub at minifigure scale would be as tall as the swords sticking out the top of the Fire Mech.
The Set
Just because it short one doesn't mean it won't work, I think it takes up all the dimensions as needed and comes with a range and melee system! Also it could also be a good base to make your own minifigure scale Chub.

As you can see here, compared to a microfig, she is a bit higher up in height to the leg.
