LEGO Bricktober Theater Review for MF0

The Box
This is one of four of last years (2014) Bricktober sets that you could of gotten for free if you spend like $70 dollars. I picked this up while I was at RavenCon when I ran out to the near by Toys R Us to get some more parts for cover. They didn't have any of the others sadly because I would certainly have gone broke getting the entire set.

Scrap
Can you build some sort of creation right away?

Say Hello to this Diesel fueled Frame, Scrap! Sort of a Hi-Legs/Chub hybrid feel? Anyways, this awesome frame (I sort of love it, sad I have to take it apart) gets us +5 points. Also the set it self is a really nice building that could look good on the table. Talk about that more in Total.

Parts 1 - So many little parts!
Is it below, at, or above the golden ratio? The Golden Ratio is $0.10 per part

$19.99 / 164 parts = $0.12 per part, ouch! Your paying for buzz words here I think. -10 points!

Parts 2
If you can't build a creation right away, or choose not to, does it have parts you should be able to put into use right away?

Pretty much, yep. +5 points

The Set
Does it have more than a handful of immediately useful parts?

Over all I think I will have to say yes. +5 points

Certainly fits 4p scale better...
Total: A B+ set! I don't know why but I really like the 'POS' frame I built! This set though! Gorgeous and I am pretty sure I will at least be fielding the building on my table. Though at a glance I think it it will fit in but in really it more scaled four those that like 4p scale which the stack against our micro figure in hello is suppose to represent.

LEGO Chima Gorzan's Walker Review for MF0

The Bag
Picked this one up from Toys R Us, you can even order it online (here) which is a first for a polybag (not counting freebies from the LEGO online store) that I know of. Let's Open this up.

Brute Classic
Can you build some sort of creation right away?

The set is almost a frame in a bag so it was pretty easy to make this squat stumpy frame. I call it Brute and in my mind this is what the early frames most likely looked like. +5

Comparison
Is it below, at, or above the golden ratio? The Golden Ratio is $0.10 per part

$3.99 / 34 = $0.12 per part going above ratio for a -10

Parts 1
If you can't build a frame right away, or choose not to, does it have parts you should be able to put into use right away?

This is a yes of course, we did built a frame! +5

Parts 2
Does it have more than a handful of immediately useful parts?

Close but over all I am going to say yes. +5

The Set
Total: Gives a total of a B+ set but maybe more like half a +?

LEGO Friends Wish Fountain Review for MF0

Got another 5 Below find for you guys. Might call me crazy, but I got really excited for this one!

Can you build some sort of creation right away?

So I gave it a bit of a try but I couldn't get anything out of it BUT I think this set as is would be a great piece of cover to throw down on the table!! For got we will go with 0 points!

Parts 1 - The 5 Coins could be Team Markings...
Is it below, at, or above the golden ratio? (The Golden Ratio is $0.10 per part)

$3.99/ 44 = $0.09 cents per part! That is under for +5, a rare find for a Friends set!

Parts 2 or an Alien Temple...
If you can't build a frame right away, or choose not to, does it have parts you should be able to put into use right away?

There are a few parts. +5
Parts 3 - Always creepy until assembled...oh skates!
Does it have more than a handful of immediately useful parts?

But a no on this one for -5 points!

Total: B+ Set which isn't bad for a set that doesn't get you a Frame and is from the Friends line but look at this piece! I think it looks pretty neat and look good in a park or city like set up for the battlefield!

Also I like to take a moment to talk about the skates! I am really surprise no one has tried to use these in a build yet. I tried to do a bit of experimenting but had some issues. The back part is a little long covering up to much of the bottom so nothing can go right behind it, not even another skate. This is needed to counter the balance problem but if maybe if someone used a 3 brick long foot then it can be fixed?

Anyone use use the skates or is inspired to try them now? Post links in the comments.

Taking Mobile Frame Zero to RavenCon 2015

Last weekend I ran demos for Mobile Frame Zero: Rapid Attack up in Richmond at RavenCon. Though I didn't get to check out much of the con itself, I had a good time and certainly learned some things.

Like some others have said, taking a day for yourself is a needed thing when demoing at a con. Friday was suppose to be my day but I wasn't able to get the day off like I wanted from work. By the time I pulled into the convention I barely had time to get dinner before rushing off to my Pathfinder Society Game.

Saturday morning I was able to really check out the convention but then my afternoon was taking up by the demo. When being a one man team, I need not being doing it for 6ish hours! It was great, had a lot of fun talking/playing with people. I think I spread some hype and got some converts. I was even surprised by how many who have heard of the game but haven't checked it out yet.

Right before the demo time I realized I was short some terrain, thankfully there was a Toys R Us across from the hotel. So as I ran out for lunch I also grabbed a Classic Box and a surviving Toys R Us exclusive set.

Yes, expect some reviews in the future.

So, take a look at the set up?

I was raffling off a Starter Pack which was won by Adam (or Alex, I am bad with names. Let me know if you see this winner boy so I can fix it.). He was very excited to get it so I felt awesome about giving it to him.

He picked up Sunday during my second slot (not sure if I will do that again either, a slot the following day). I more or less had it set up to do a game with him but they did not have time.

Over all I had a good time and learned some things about Convention demoing.

Thanks for having me RavenCon!

Video Games, Art and Food

A few weeks ago I visit the Chrysler Museum of Art (free admission) in Norfolk, VA to check out the newest visiting exhibit: The Art of Video Games. It was rather impressive and for me very moving. For the generation that saw the rebirth of consoles and had the controls in our hands from birth; watching this medium grow up with us  to get an art exhibit makes me feel vindicated.

Saw this piece on my way in
The Placard for the piece above.
I enjoyed the entrance pieces.

What the Hell are you looking at Clyde?

When you first enter you are greeted by an introductory word from the Curator, Chris Melissinos.

Honestly, I cried a little.
I liked how they had them broken down into Eras then the Consoles themselves of the Era. Each set up had four topic areas it could talk about it. Each topic carried over to the rest of the Consoles so you had a flowing them.

There was some playable demos.

Monkey Island
Ending Word.

Arcade Time!

Since my last visit to the Chrysler so I figured I check out the rest of the place while I was there. Here is a few pieces that stood out, a small fraction of their collection.

Anyone else remember these from science classes?

Science!
This piece stood out extra special:

After my visit to the Chrysler, I found myself rather hungry. My first thought was just to grab something while on the road but I decided to check out some local flavor instead. After checking the Google Maps app I noticed there was a food place just down the block: The Nouvelle Restaurant.
This was the best choice. It was a nice hole in the wall place, kitchen behind the bar with great conversational staff with great food! Seriously, after you go check out this exhibit go eat here! I know I will next time I am in Downtown Norfolk!

Go here!
My Tasty Lunch!!
The Art of Video Games Exhibit moves out of the Chrysler after May 10, 2015 so go now!!!
